Detailed description of Woodbrier Golf Course

Woodbrier Golf Course is a Public, 9 hole golf course located in Martinsburg , West Virginia.

Woodbrier Golf Course first opened for play in the Fall of 1965. The course was designed by Pat Thomas and Walt Hoffman who developed the property and nearby residential community.

This narrow course was built on rolling terrain and features water hazards coming into play on a few holes. The signature hole is #7, a par 4, requiring a shot over water to a small green. #8 is the hardest (number 1 handicap) hole at Woodbrier. Par for the course is 35 and the course plays to a 9-hole distance of 2,705 yards.

There is an additional set of men's tees that can be used when double looping for an eighteen hole round. The second set of tees is a wee bit longer making the 18-hole round at Woodbrier Golf Course play to a par of 71.

I play this course all of the time. I used to play weekly, now just monthly. The biggest things it has going for it are that it's cheap to play, easy to walk, has very friendly staff and is rarely very busy, especially mid-week. The course condition is basic, and very much depends on how much rain we've had for the season. There are no sprinklers. So the course is at the mercy of Mother Nature. If we've had sufficient rain, the course is very playable, though with very marginal lies in the fairway and not very flat or well-groomed tees. They've always taken very good care of the greens, its greatest asset, though they are too slow. I have seen them syringing the greens in the middle of a hot summer day! What other economically public course does that?

Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Worse than average course for the area

Greens were excellent. Fairways are in some trouble, but you also have to consider the weather and economy. Well thought out design. Pretty cool that deer were grazing near the fairway on #5.
